Refiner Products Manufacturing (RPM) has provided help on refiner systems to the wood products industry since the company began in May 1988.  RPM has modified the designs and application of the Sprout refiners to allow for more production and more efficient operation.

In 2001, a customer in the western US was not happy with the amount of time the mill was spending on plate changes and tramming on the Sprout machines compared to the mill’s Sunds L-42 machines.  RPM was doing all the rebuild work and spare parts for the Sunds machines and the mill asked if we had a solution to the plate change and tramming time issue.  Based on RPM’s knowledge of the Sunds plate holder design and the size of the Sprout 42-1CP rotor, RPM adapted the Sunds plate holder design to the Sprout 42-1CP refiner.  Once converted, the mill reduced the plate change time from approximately 10 hrs down to 2 hours.  They were also able to use the plate holders presently being used in their Sunds L-42 refiners.

This modification work continued our effort to help the mills adapt their present refiners to take advantage of technologies proven on other manufactures machines.
